What Our Customers Have to Say
Pool Landscaping Tailored to Your Lifestyle
Great pool landscaping is about much more than a band of stone around the water. It should connect the pool to the rest of your outdoor living space and make the entire backyard feel intentional.
When we design your pool landscaping, we look at the complete picture:
- How people will move from the house to the pool, seating areas and other zones
- Where lounge chairs, dining areas, gardens and shade structures will sit
- How fencing, privacy screens, planting beds and lawn areas frame the space
- How lighting, steps, grade changes and pathways affect safety and flow
Our landscape design background means your pool, pool deck, planting and fencing will feel like one unified project, not a collection of separate pieces.
Pool Landscaping Services
- Inground pool installation and coordination
We coordinate with pool suppliers and installers so the pool, coping, pool deck and landscaping all work together. - Hardscaping: pool decks, patios and retaining walls
We design and build interlock and stone pool decks, patios, steps, walkways and retaining walls that stand up to Ottawa’s climate. - Softscaping: planting, sod and privacy
We create planting plans with pool friendly trees, shrubs, perennials and new sod to add color, soften hard edges and improve privacy. - Pool fences, railings and safety features
We design and install attractive, code compliant pool fences and gates that meet Ottawa pool enclosure requirements. - Outdoor structures, lighting and luxury add ons
We can add pergolas, cabanas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, water features and landscape lighting to complete your pool area.
Landscaping for Ottawa’s Climate
Ottawa’s hot summers, heavy rains and long winters are tough on pool areas. Freeze thaw cycles, clay rich soils and significant snow loads can all put stress on decks, patios, planting beds and retaining walls.
When we design pool landscaping in Ottawa, we plan for this from day one with climate focused choices such as:
- Proper excavation depth and well compacted bases under pool decks and patios to reduce heaving and settlement over time
- Drainage that moves water away from the pool, foundations and hardscape so meltwater and heavy rain do not sit where they can cause frost related damage
- Frost protected footings for steps, walls and structures around the pool to help them stay stable through repeated freeze thaw cycles
- Plant selections that handle Ottawa winters, intense summer sun and pool conditions, using hardy shrubs, perennials and grasses that are proven around pools in Ontario
- Materials and details that make winter care easier, from interlock layouts that are easier to shovel to plants and features that can be protected during snow removal
The result is a pool landscape that looks great in July and still performs properly after years of Ottawa winters, with less movement, fewer surprises and lower long term maintenance.
Residential & Commercial Projects
While most pool landscaping projects involve single family homes, the same design build approach scales to:
- Multi unit residential developments that require a shared pool area with durable, low maintenance finishes
- Boutique hotels, inns and resorts that want distinctive pool courtyards and outdoor spaces to attract guests
- Commercial or institutional facilities that need robust pool areas with strong safety, circulation and enclosure design
These projects often involve additional coordination with architects, engineers and property managers. K. Joly’s construction background and relationships with trades are well suited to this kind of work.
One Team for the Entire Project
Pool landscaping projects touch almost every part of a property: grading, drainage, hardscaping, planting, fencing and often the pool itself. K. Joly provides a single team that can coordinate the entire project so the pool, pool deck, gardens and fence all feel like one cohesive design instead of separate pieces installed at different times.
From the first design concept to the final cleanup, you work with one company and one project manager, which keeps communication simple and helps your project stay on schedule.

About Our Chief Designer
Marina is an experienced landscape designer with a strong passion for creating beautiful, well planned outdoor spaces. She studied at Humber College, worked for many years in the garden centre industry as a designer and has run her own small business, giving her a deep knowledge of both soft and hard landscaping trends.
For pool landscaping projects, Marina creates custom designs based on site analysis and the specific needs of each client, from family friendly backyards to luxury pool retreats. She uses Dynascape, an AutoCAD based, industry leading landscape design software, to produce detailed 2D plans in black and white or colour and can convert these into 3D views with videography so you can clearly visualize your new pool area before construction begins.
