What Our Customers Have to Say
Pool Decks That Tie Your Whole Backyard Together
A great pool deck is more than a ring of hardscape around the water. It should connect the pool to the rest of your outdoor living space.
When we design your pool deck, we look at the complete picture:
- How people will move from the house to the pool and other zones
- Where lounge chairs, dining areas and shade structures will sit
- How fencing, privacy screens and planting beds frame the space
- How lighting, steps and elevation changes affect safety and flow
Our landscape design background means your pool, deck and landscaping will feel like one unified project, not a collection of separate pieces.
Many Materials to Choose From
We help you choose the right material based on budget, aesthetics and maintenance preferences:
- Interlock or natural stone – modular, elegant and ideal for handling movement from freeze thaw cycles when installed on a proper base.
- Stamped or broom finished concrete – clean look, continuous surface, and very durable when reinforced and properly jointed.
- Composite or PVC decking – low maintenance boards that resist rot and splintering, perfect around water, with colour options that stay consistent over time.
We will walk you through the pros and cons of each option and show examples from completed projects so you can choose with confidence.
Above Ground & Semi-Inground Pool Decks
If you have an above ground or semi-inground pool, the right deck can make it feel like a custom built in pool.
Using wood or composite decking, we create:
- Wraparound or partial wrap decks
- Raised platforms with built in stairs and landings
- Safe guardrails and gates that meet local code
- Integrated seating, storage and privacy screens
We can also design decks so that you start with a simple platform and expand over time as budget allows.
Inground Pool Decks
For inground pools, we build custom decks and patios that sit flush with the coping and extend into generous lounge areas.
Popular options include:
- Interlock and natural stone patios that work well with Ottawa’s freeze thaw cycles
- Broom finished or stamped concrete pool decks
- Low maintenance composite or PVC deck boards on a pressure treated structure
We can match your existing interlock or create a brand new pattern that runs seamlessly from the pool edge to patios, walkways and outdoor kitchens.
Built For Ottawa’s Climate
Ottawa’s hot summers, heavy rains and long winters are tough on outdoor structures. We design and build pool decks to handle it, with:
- Proper base depth and compaction
- Drainage that moves water away from structures
- Control and expansion joints in concrete
- Frost protected footings for decks and stairs
These measures help minimize movement, heaving and cracking over time.
Residential & Commercial Pool Decks
While most pool deck projects involve single family homes, the same design build approach scales to:
- Multi-unit residential developments that need a shared pool deck with durable, easy to maintain surfaces.
- Boutique hotels, inns and resorts that want a distinctive poolside deck to attract guests and enhance their outdoor spaces.
- Commercial or institutional facilities that require robust, low maintenance pool decks with strong safety, accessibility and enclosure design.
These projects involve additional coordination with architects, engineers and property managers. K. Joly’s construction background and relationships with trades are well suited to this type of work.
Inground Pool & Deck Packages
If you are planning an inground pool, we can coordinate with the pool installation so that excavation, base preparation, plumbing and deck construction happen in the right order.
Because K. Joly Contracting is also an authorized dealer and installer of Bayto precast concrete pools, you have access to compact, high quality plunge pools that pair perfectly with custom decking and interlock.

About Our Chief Designer
Marina is an experienced landscape designer with a strong passion for creating beautiful, well planned outdoor spaces. She studied at Humber College, worked for many years in the garden centre industry as a designer, and has run her own small business, giving her a deep knowledge of both soft and hard landscaping trends.
For pool deck projects, Marina focuses on layout, flow, safety, and how the deck connects to the rest of the yard, so the pool area feels intentional, not like an add-on. She uses Dynascape (AutoCAD-based landscape design software) to produce detailed 2D plans and can convert concepts into 3D views so you can visualize the pool deck, steps, elevations, and surrounding features before construction begins.
